I can relate to that because it's the only way I've ever done it.
With all the withdrawal suffering you've written about, even while using the patch, I believe you're fully qualified to kick this cold turkey.
You already know what to expect in terms of withdrawal symptoms, junky thinking, blah, blah, blah.
You've heard it all and experienced it all plenty of times over.
The difference this time hopefully will be this ...
You WILL go through Hell Week. Just expect it. Period.
Actually, those first 3 days are the worst, and then it starts getting much better, fairly quickly. Without the nicotine continuing to be supplied to your bloodstream, you'll really start kicking the s**t out of your habit.
I have found it really empowering, and you take that and you build on it. Day after day.
You already know the dangers and triggers. They'll still be there. But I'm hoping for your sake that kicking this cold turkey will give you an extra bonus mental boost as you see how much stronger you are than you ever imagined.
Tammy, I was going to write yesterday and tell you that I didn't think you were ready to quit yet. I think that with your marriage just getting back into some semblence of comfort, you need to wait a few months perhaps before you try to do this. I wish I could say that I think you would be successful right now, but I honestly don't. And, I think if you examine yourself and your attempts and slips you will see that now is not the time. Keep posting tho and writing because it will help you get through this ordeal. A journal is a wonderful way to help yourself get through the trials and tribulations of life. And, the bonus here is, you can get comments to help you. I wish you the best, honest, but I don't think you are ready.
Good it worked, what a stuffing drama that was - I had to try about fifty (maybe 8) different names. I'll never remember all these different things, but at least I got through. Talk to you all later, now that I've worked it out OK
I think you have to give quitting another go Tammy, because if you don't even try - its just longer you spend smoking until you THINK you are ready, adn the smoking becomes more of a reinforced habit the longer you leave it. Even with slips, at least you have long periods where you are not smoking at all.
Welcome back to blogspot! I've been checking in on you from time to time. As for whether you quit now or wait, or use the patch or go cold turkey...you have to do what YOU feel is best for you at this moment in time! I know that NRT can help with the depression that many people, especially women, suffer from when they quit smoking. So, that is something to consider. I have come to realize that quitting can be a long process, and it is something I have to work on every single day, even more than 6 months into it. That is one reason why I didn't change my quit date, even when I slipped. I just got right back "on the horse," so to speak.
I know how difficult it is to stay quit when the world seems to conspire against you. Stress, weight gain, anger, hunger, bad work days, bad hair days...you name it, right? I think quitting is about finding ways to get through each day smoke free. And what worked yesterday may not work today. It is about not giving up, or giving in. And when you do stumble, use is as a learning experience and not a failure.
I'm hoping that you can make this work for you, on your own terms. Just holler if you need anything!
How did I make that bold? HA! I'm not telling you!
Oh, to answer your question from the other blog, I live in the state of New Jersey. I'm about an hour's drive from New York City, but I'm up in the mountains, and far enough away from the city that I have beautiful, dark star-filled skies at night.
Ok ... I'll tell you. :-)
It's easy. Look right above the window where you type in your message. See where it says you can use some HTML tags? The bracket with the letter 'b' is to make text bold. The 'i' is to italicize. And I think the 'a' is to make a word be a hyperlink to some other webpage. I'm not sure about that. Tammy knows, so maybe she can explain that one.
Put the < b > (without spaces) in front of the word or sentence you want to bold. Then at the end of that word or sentence, you have to turn bold off. You do that by repeating the 'tag' but putting a slash in front of the 'b'.
Like this < / b > (with no spaces).
Works the same with 'i' for italicizing.
Try it. If you do it wrong, this blog will give you an error message and it won't post your message. So if nothing happens when you click 'publish', look for an error message.
You can also click 'preview' to see what you're message will look like before you post it.
Thanks for that tip Fred -shite, its a bad as flamin' algebra! Hey, New Jersey - sweet, thats Bruce Springsteen country isn't it?? my hero!!
I am glad to see "our" people on this blog here - I've found this group really great - well done Darlene on 73 days (its probably more days now, I'm posting this on Monday March 20 early a.m.in Aus)
I am up to Day 55/15 dependeing on whether I'm being strict or soft on myself. But the quit remains clean and intact at this point;.
Tammy - my friend - how is it going ?? I hope its great for your sake, if not, don't worry keepy posting here for more encouragement and support - just as we all do.
I'm reinforcing my quit by think that I'm not doing it for me - I'm doing it for my 2yo. I carry around a little photo of her - and look at that everyone I even remotely feel like sticking my "dummy" back in , and the urge passes. Anyway have a great day all
My name is Tammy and I'm 43 years old and I need to quit smoking. I can't remember how many times I've tried and I always think this is the one.
My quit date is September 2nd 2006 and I really hope I can make it this time.

Cool! I can delete my own posts!
I hope I don't say anything that would make me want to do that!

OK - Let's go, Tammy!
Let's get back on track, and kick this thing.
Question: Are you going to use the patch again? (I'm not about to get on my soapbox, so don't worry. I'm just curious.) :-)
Wow! The time-of-day on the posts is 4 hours early. I posted that last one at 7:22am, and it's time-stamped 3:22am.
Hi Fred,
I'm glad it's working for you. I think I'll try it cold turkey this time and if I can't hack it I'll put a patch on.
I've always had a problem with the time stamp on this blog. I'll have to work on that.
Thanks for believing in me Fred. I know I can do this.
ok ... cold turkey it is!

You can do this, Tammy!
You've got the ability, the motivation and the attitude.
Tomorrow's gonna be a bright, new day for Tammy!!
Ooohhh, I have to get computer literate - do I sign up as a blogger or what? This is just a test message
